The History of Windsor Car Club

The early years

Windsor Car Club was formed by a small group of motoring enthusiasts in Windsor and the surrounding district in 1949, to bring together those with a mutual interest in motoring. Membership is open to all those interested in motoring and in this respect the Board wishes to emphasise that the Clubs objective is to cater for all types of motorist, the owner of the family saloon being just as welcome as the performance car owner. The Club was formed into a Company Limited by Guarantee for technical reasons in November 1969.

The 1980's

I'm open to suggestions on this bit!

The 1990's

The early and mid 1990's has seen the club have a dominating presence in the road event scene in the local area. As well as running two scatters in the Five Maps Scatter championship, 1997 saw the introduction of the Swan Rally. This road rally, run in conjunction with High Wycombe and District MC, was rapidly accepted into the local championships and has been well received in the area. In 1999, ex World Champion Rally Driver Pentti Airikkala was at the start to flag the cars away from the Reading start. As many of the top competitors have graduated to stage rallying, this domination has faded a little, although WCC competitors still put in a strong showing whenever they venture out.

Towards the end of the decade, we have also been involved with the Bridgestone Motorsport Carnival, a two day affair held at Wroughton airfield near Swindon. Saturday sees a sprint and an autotest, and competitors are then able to camp overnight before the stage rally on the Sunday. WCC run the autotest at this prestigious event.

WCC has had a pretty successful history, winning the the following titles in the past few years:

There must have been some but I have no records - if someone can provide me with the details I'll put them in!
